The Grants Manager reports to the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer and works with all members of the Foundation team to provide management and support of U.S. and international grants and program related investments made by the Foundation. The estimated grant making budget for 2009 is $20M. The Grants Manager is expected to evaluate and recommend ideas and suggestions to further enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the processing and management of grants. This position requires close coordination with the Foundation's financial and program teams, grantees and other partners to ensure the grants management process is operating smoothly and meeting the needs of all parties. This position takes a role in working with the Foundation's legal counsel to understand, document and implement actions to meet legal regulations and guidelines that affect grant making.
The Lemelson Foundation seeks a Grants Manager with at least five years of demonstrated success in managing complex international and domestic granting processes as well as program related investments, including loans and equity investments. He/She will bring extensive experience and best practices to the Foundation and will have a clear vision for the most effective processes and systems to support the Foundation's granting efforts. The ideal candidate must possess a genuine passion and commitment to the mission of the Foundation and its core values. It is critical that this individual have success in developing ways to continually integrate the program and financial work, and build strong relationships between the program staff and financial staff. Direct experience in a Foundation with a deep background in business with the ability to assist in due diligence, and experience with expenditure responsibility grants is ideal.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in business administration, international business or a related field. Extensive knowledge of international grants management standards, policies and procedures is required. A demonstrated team orientation and commitment to developing and maintaining collaborative, team relationships in a fast-paced work environment is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft office and sophisticated grant management software is required as is the ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial information. Most of all, the Foundation seeks a seasoned Grants Manager who will bring innovative best practices to enhance its grant making system.
